Remarks / more information:

Disease gene identification has been revolutionized in recent years through next-generation sequencing technologies and the development of bio-informatics algorithms for candidate gene selection. In addition to exome sequencing and clinical phenotyping, mass spectrometry based –omics methodologies aim to add a third layer of functional information for gene discovery. The resulting biomarkers provide first insights into disease pathology, form the starting point to develop therapeutic approaches and can be used for treatment monitoring.

As a second phase of the collaboration with Agilent Technologies, two novel QTOF mass spectrometers have been installed within the Translational Metabolic Laboratory for untargeted molecular profiling and a Tripple-Quad LC-MS method for dynamic analysis of central carbon metabolism.

In this seminar, the added value of mass spectrometry based –omics technologies will be presented for gene discovery, development of therapeutic strategies and dynamic analysis of metabolic pathways.
