500,000 Euros for prostate cancer research

Schalken, Jack

Professor of experimental urology Jack Schalken and urological researcher Gerald Verhaegh have received a 500.000 Euro subsidy for the development of a new therapy against cancer. The grant is provided by technology Foundation STW.  The therapy, which will be developed together with  InteRNA Technologies, is based on the administration of microRNAs which the researchers hope will make the cancer cells lose their tumor properties. The researchers will examine if indeed tumour metastasis is reduced and if cancer cells become more sensitive to chemotherapy.
