Dr. Tina Ritschel receives a € 500.000 NLeSC research grant for Medicinal eChemistry.

Dr. Tina Ritschel (CDD group, CMBI, Radboudumc) has received a € 500.000 research grant for the development of eScience technologies to improve the integration of chemical and biological data for the prediction of polypharmacological action of drug molecules.

In this project, Dr. Tina Ritschel will work together with colleagues from Vrije Universiteit Amstderdam (Dr. Chris De Graaf) and the Netherlands eScience Center on the design of an eChemistry workflow that allows interoperability of large volumes of heterogeneous life science data with modelling software. As a proof of concept molecules will be designed and optimized that can simultaneously act on several G Protein-Coupled Receptors (GPCRs; the most important drug targets) while avoiding critical side effects via off-target proteins.

The open-source eScience technologies will also facilitate easy collaboration with external project partners (including BioAxis Research, Griffin Discoveries, Taros Chemicals, and AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals).
