Jiangyan Yu, Chinese

2. When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a science teacher in the primary school.

3. What was your previous academic training, where did you study?
I did my M.Sc on plant genetics at Wuhan Botanical Garden (China), and focused on the evolution process of a biofuel grass in China.

4. What is your current function and what would you like to achieve?
I am a PhD student in the department of Human Genetics. In my research project, I study the multiclonal architecture of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in relation to therapy resistance and the origin of relapse. Currently, I am studying the clinical relevance of subclonal aberrations at the time of diagnosis.

5. The RIMLS motto is 'to understand molecular mechanisms of disease'. What does this mean for you?
For me, if we can clearly understand the evolution process of relapse in leukemia, we will provide novel strategy for future routine diagnosis. Therefore, the patient can get proper treatment and live for a longer life.

6. What is the biggest motivation in your work?
The biggest motivation in my work is that I can gain knowledge and experience about cancer genetics. And this work can be used to help patients in the future.

7. What is your dream for the future?
I want to become a cancer geneticist and translate my knowledge to clinical treatment
