Achieving efficient siRNA delivery

The therapeutic potential of siRNA can only be harnessed with efficient delivery technologies. However, so far, the development of delivery systems has been largely based on trial and error and little knowledge existed which molecular characteristics differentiate an effective delivery system from an uneffective one.

In a recent publication in ACS Nano, the group of Roland Brock, Dept. of Biochemistry, together with collaborators of the University of Stockholm and the Northern Institute for Cancer Research at the University of Newcastle now defined such molecular parameters for cell-penetrating peptides, delivery vehicles that have shown success also in vivo. The results will accelerate the future development of siRNA delivery systems.
