Where and when were you born?

My place of birth is Breda (the Pearle of the South), 2 November 1953 

Where do you live and with whom?

Our house at Hoefslag 22 Nijmegen, I share with my wife and our youngest son. My two oldest sons have left the house already. 

What was your role model when you were a kid?

Jules Verne (around the world in eighty days) and Old Shatterhand and Winnitoe !! 

Why aren’t you doing the same thing now as your role model (or do you?)

My role models inspired me to go behind the horizon, as I am still doing today. 

What is the thing in your (work or other) history that you are most proud of?

First of all my sons and wife. Regarding my work, I am proud that I could contribute to capacity building in the academic medical field in low-recourse countries. 

What is it that you would like to achieve in work in the next 5 to 10 years?

We have a great group of infectiologist at Radboudumc and I hope we can keep on working like this.

For what can we wake you up?

Chocolate and a nice sailing wind. 

What is your hobby and how good are you at it?

Being outside in nature preferably sailing or cycling: I am very good in enjoying this. 

What is your biggest irritation?

Administration, administration, administration,..
