Where and when were you born?

In Rotterdam in 1986 as the fifth of seven children.

Where do you live and with whom?

Currently I live in Utrecht with my girlfriend Muriël.

Who was your role model when you were a kid?

I did not really have a role model. Although I did admire the enormous resourcefulness of the members of the A-team! My treating general practitioner also was a very intriguing person with a remarkable eye for individual patients (unfortunately resulting in enormous delays during his consultation hours).

Why aren’t you doing the same thing now as your role model (or do you?)

The auditions for action hero in television series did not occur that often in the Netherlands, and I have to admit I did not really try to attend them... I am a physician now. Although becoming a general practitioner is a wonderful job, I chose to become a urologist.

What is the thing in your (work or other) history that you are most proud of?

That would be my first accepted abstract for an international congress. I wrote it as a student during a research internship and it was accepted for the annual meeting of the American Urological Association in San Diego. Giving my first presentation on an international congress is a memorable moment.

What is it that you would like to achieve in work in the next 5 to 10 years?

I would like to become a competent urologist. Besides that, by finishing my PhD thesis I want to improve imaging in the field of renal cancer and establish the appropriate use of available imaging modalities. While becoming/being an urologist I hope to be able to spread this knowledge amongst many treating physicians.

For what can we wake you up?

A good glass of whisky (just occasionally) and katjang pedis (crispy peppered peanuts).

What is your hobby and how good are you at it?

Traveling, cycling and writing. The latter two just to take my mind off of things, so I have no pretensions whatsoever.

What is your biggest irritation?

Inefficacy and waste of valuable materials and time in health care.

Who would you like to invite for dinner, if you had the chance?

The Dalai Lama.
