Where and when were you born?

In Zwolle in 1986.

Where do you live and with whom?

Near the centre of Nijmegen, I share an apartment with a flatmate.

Who was your role model when you were a kid?

I didn’t really have a role model, but I was quite impressed with Femke Halsema when she was chairman of GroenLinks. I have always been interested in politics and society and she made me realize you don’t need to be an old gray man to do something with that interest.

Why aren’t you doing the same thing now as your role model (or do you?)

If she contributed to my choices it was indirectly since it was never my ambition to do the same thing. I studied sociology because of my interest in society and I am pursuing my PhD on culture and affordability in healthcare on that same base. Yet I do contribute to local politics on a small scale in my free time. I joined the PvdA and I assist our Nijmegen town councilors on the topics of healthcare and culture.

What is the thing in your (work or other) history that you are most proud of?

I’m part of the Celsus academy, which is the Dutch expert centre on fiscal sustainable healthcare. Celsus is a joint initiative of IQ healthcare and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. We perform interdisciplinary research and try to build bridges between policy, science and practice. We also organize a yearly conference with Celsus. This year minister Schippers attended our conference and all five Celsus PhD’s were asked to present their work to the minister. She was really interested and enthusiastic and I felt proud of what we had accomplished together.

What is it that you would like to achieve in work in the next 5 to 10 years?

Celsus started only two years ago, so we have not yet reached our full potential. I’d like to contribute to this with my own research and in collaboration with others. On a more personal level I want to finish my PhD successfully and contribute to my field while further developing my research skills.

For what can we wake you up?

Fire. Apart from that please don’t.

What is your hobby and how good are you at it?

I’m a amateur silversmith. I follow courses with a professional goldsmith. I enjoy it and I’ve made some nice jewelry, but I’ll never reach professional standards.

What is your biggest irritation?

Arrogance and self-importance

Who would you like to invite for dinner, if you had the chance?

Bruce Springsteen
