Consortium grant kidney foundation

Detailed knowledge on the immune response against kidney grafts contributes to decreased rejection rates, a longer life span of donor kidneys, and ultimately a shorter waiting list.

For this reason the Dutch Kidney Foundation awarded 1.25 million euro to the Dutch consortium PROCARE (Profiling consortium of Antibody Repertoire and Effector functions).

This represents an unique cooperation between laboratory specialists and nephrologists of all Dutch transplantation centers. The joint effort will produce innovative insights by linking clinical outcome of 5,400 transplantations to the results of modern techniques to measure the allo-response.

Project coordinator is dr. H. Otten (University Utrecht). Project leaders from the Radboudumc are prof. Irma Joosten and Prof. Luuk Hilbrands). http://www.nierstichting.nl/werk/nieuws/subsidie-brengt-kortere-wachtlijst-en-langere-levensduur-donornieren-nabij (only available in Dutch).
