Cum Laude doctorate for Hanna Niehues

On 15 September, Hanna Niehues of the Department of Dermatology, theme Inflammatory diseases successfully defended her thesis entitled "From Sequence to Function: Understanding of Genetic Risk Factors for Psoriasis and Atopic Dermatitis" and was awarded the doctorate with the distinction Cum Laude.

Currently Hanna continues to work in the group of Prof. Joost Schalkwijk as a postdoc. Her research focuses on functional analyses of genetic polymorphisms that contribute to inflammatory skin diseases. Using three-dimensional skin models of genetically defined keratinocytes she studies the consequences of genetic variants on the formation and function of the skin, and the impact on the cutaneous microbiome.
