EMBO fellowship for Cindy Dieteren

Dieteren, Cindy

Dr. Cindy Dieteren (Department of Cell Biology) has been awarded an EMBO short-term fellowship for her project entitled: "Topographic control of mitochondrial function in the cytolytic immunological synapse".

The fellowship for 3 months has been awarded to conduct research in the laboratory of Prof. Luca Scorrano at the Venetian Institute of Molecular Medicine, Padua, Italy. Cindy will receive training in high-resolution spinning disk microscopy to investigate the impact of mitochondria-shaping protein interference on cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) function.  Mitochondrial function is likely important in CTL-mediated killing of target cells, particularly during metabolic challenge by the reactive, immunosuppressive tumor stroma. This project will allow future work on improving CTL function under metabolic stress by the tumor microenvironment.
