Exchange between NCMLS and IRB Barcelona

As part of an exchange between the NCMLS and the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) in Barcelona, seven NCMLS PhD students went to Barcelona to participate in their PhD Student Symposium, 'The clock of life', focusing on the molecular mechanisms of aging.

The symposium, held on the 14th and 15th of November, brought together 200 young scientists from 17 countries. Senior guest speakers from top universities such as Princeton, Oxford, and Cambridge presented their inspiring work. In between, young scientists had the opportunity to present their work to the international audience. By means of oral presentations and posters also the NCMLS' research was promoted. The combination of the fundamental research performed at the IRB and the more clinically orientated research performed at NCMLS led to fruitful discussions.

Besides the symposium, the IRB Student Council organized a tour through their institute, including a visit at the IRB's impressive microscope facility. In the evening hours the Catalan cuisine and the nightlife of Barcelona was introduced. The great science on offer and Catalan hospitality made this exchange a great success.
