On 3/6/2011 an EMBO short term fellowship was awarded to Sander Grefte. He is working at the Department of Dentistry, Section Orthodontics and Craniofacial Biology.

On Monday October 3 at 10.30 he will defend his thesis: Improving the regeneration of injured muscle (Promotor: Prof Anne Marie Kuijpers-Jagtman, Copromotors: Dr Hans von den Hoff and Dr Ruurd Torensma).

The fellowship for 4 weeks is awarded to conduct research in the laboratory of Dr. Peter Zammit at King's College in London. Under the supervision of Dr. Zammit, Sander Grefte will isolate single myofibers from rat muscle, and study the activation of satellite cells by SDF-1. This will allow him to extend his research on the regeneration of injured muscle after cleft palate surgery. In addition, he received a TMF grant from the KNAW.
