Internationalization Prize 2014 for Dick Thijssen and Thijs Eijsvogels

Thijssen , Dick

On September 1st, Dick Thijssen and Thijs Eijsvogels received the Internationalization Prize 2014 from the Radboud University Nijmegen for their initiative of setting up the 'International Masterclass in Cardiovascular Science' (IMCS). Based on a longstanding collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University, Thijssen and Eijsvogels have set-up a structure that facilitates intensive exchange of MSc-students, PhD-students and staff members in both research- and teaching-related projects. This has resulted the initiation of several cutting edge and novel research projects, papers in the world's leading journals in cardiology/physiology and grant proposals. Specifically for MSc-students, Thijssen and Eijsvogels developed a 7-step program for Radboudumc-students. This includes performance of (synergistic) internships in Nijmegen and Liverpool, specific learning aims, skills relevant for a cardiovascular researcher and attendance to a summerschool in Liverpool. The past 6 years, the 7-step program resulted in 21 peer-reviewed publications (all co-authored by at least 1 Radboudumc-student).
