Dr. Jan Bussink, within the theme of Rare cancers, has been appointed Professor of Biological and Molecular Imaging in Experimental Radiotherapy at Radboud University/the Radboud university medical center, with effect from 1 August 2017.


Bussink has been leading the Radiotherapy and Oncoimmunology Laboratory (ROI) at Radboud university medical center since 2010. Researchers study radio-resistance mechanisms at both the biological and the molecular level and search for better treatment outcomes by influencing the immune system in combination with radiotherapy.

Jan Bussink (1964, Denekamp) studied Medicine at Radboud University and received his doctorate degree in 1989. With a fellowship of the Dutch Cancer Society, he then worked in the Radboudumc Experimental Radiotherapy Laboratory and at the Department of Experimental Radiotherapy of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, USA. From 1993 until 1997 Bussink trained as a radiation oncologist at the Radboud university medical center and since that time he has been working as a radiation oncologist and staff member with the focus on lung oncology. In 2000 he obtained his PhD on research into the micro-environment of the tumor.
