Lauterbur Award for Maarten de Rooij

Maarten De Rooij

Maarten de Rooij from the Department of Radiology/Nuclear Medicine & Department of Operating Rooms was awarded the "Lauterbur Award", and he was the youngest winner so far.  He received this award since his paper and presentation were judged as the best scientific MRI related work at the annual conference of the Society of Computed Body Tomography and MR (SCBT-MR) in New Orleans.

The title of his presentation, which comprised a collaboration with the Wesley hospital in Brisbane and the Mayo Clinic in the US was: "Diagnostic- and cost-effectiveness of mpMRI and MR-guided biopsy in men with a suspicion of prostate cancer." The study shows the ability of multiparametric MRI and MR-guided biopsy to improve the prostate cancer diagnosis, and also demonstrates that the MRI strategy appears to be cost-effective compared to the current standard of care.
