NCMLS has been awarded a prestigious subsidy from NWO recognizing the excellence of its educational programs.

In the framework of the NWO Graduate Program 2011, NCMLS has received a subsidy of 800.000 euros. The NWO Graduate Programme aims to promote the development of top talented researchers in graduate schools that provide an excellent and coherent educational and research programme covering both the master's and PhD phases. The NCMLS is such a research school. It plays a prominent role (inter)nationally when it comes to unraveling the molecular mechanisms underlying serious diseases such as malaria, metabolic diseases, kidney disorders and cancer. Through insight in the fundamental causes of these disorders the NCMLS contributes to the development of better treatments for the patient.

In total, 49 schools applied for this grant but only 19 proposals were funded. Thanks to this award the NCMLS can build an even stronger education and research programme. Professor René Bindels, Director of the NCMLS, is excited about the award: "it is an affirmation of the quality of our research institute in general and in particular of our graduate school. We can now offer four additional PhD places to talented master students. That is a huge boost to stimulate future innovative endeavours".
