Understanding who within a community transmits malaria allows judicious targeting of interventions for malaria elimination.
Research of Teun Bousema and collegues (Department of Medical microbiology) was reported this week in Nature Communications.  It provides detailed data on this infectious reservoir, highlighting the importance of older age groups in the maintenance of transmission and identifying likely thresholds for diagnostics to limit transmission.
