In the context of internationalization of the RIMLS institute, a number of awards are available for PhD students to join the PhD retreat from Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB, Barcelona, Spain). The IRB retreat, to be held 12th & 13th November 2015, will follow the same format as the RIMLS PhD retreat. The costs will be fully paid by RIMLS and IRB Institute. A welcome day for international guests will be held at the IRB Barcelona on the 11th November 2015.

Eligibility:

  • RIMLS PhD student: PhD students should be registered in the RIMLS PhD programme.
  • Declaration of expenses: Payment will be made on the basis of actual and reasonable costs. Proof of expenses is required.

Selection procedure:

  • The RIMLS Management Team will be responsible for awarding grants.
  • Application form should include
    • Motivation: Describe your research topic and why the IRB PhD retreat is of interest to your research. For example mention specific research themes highlighted on their institute website (300 - 500 words).

PHD RETREAT GENERAL INFORMATION

The IRB Barcelona PhD Students Symposium seeks to bring together students from around the world for presentations and debates on cutting- edge topics in the scope of biomedical sciences. Our main aim is to connect the molecular mechanisms responsible for tissue homeostasis and the malignant processes leading to different pathologies, such as cancer, ageing- and metabolism-related disorders.

 

PROGRAMME AND INSTRUCTIONS

PhD students will be selected to present their research alongside renowned speakers from diverse biomedical fields. Students will also be invited to present their work in the poster format and will be encouraged to network during social events such as "Tapas with speakers" and the “Round table”.

Poster Presentation

  • The total number of posters is limited to 45. The participants will be provided with a 841 x 1189 mm (WxH, A0 size) poster stand and material for fixing the poster.

Short talks

  • They expect to have 10 short talks in the symposium. The total time reserved for a short talk is 20 minutes, including 15 minutes for the presentation and 5 minutes for discussion. You should make sure not to exceed the time limit.

Awards will be given for the best poster and the best short talk. Clarity of presentation and scientific merit will be taken into account. Awards will be presented after the Round Table on the afternoon of Friday 13th.

 

VENUE

Col-Legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya (COAC), is located in the city centre, a 5- minute walk away from Barcelona’s central square “Plaça de Catalunya”
