Research grant for Rick Wansink and Roland Brock

Wansink Rik

Rick Wansink, Dept. of Cell Biology  and Roland Brock, Dept. of Biochemistry, have been awarded € 250,000 for a 4-year PhD research project by the Prinses Beatrix Spierfonds. This project will be directed at the targeted delivery of antisense oligonucleotides to eliminate toxic RNA molecules in myotonic dystrophy, a fatal neuromuscular disorder. The project combines expertise in the molecular mechanisms in neuromuscular disorders and in molecular targeting approaches in the departments of Cell Biology and Biochemistry and aims to take a critical step from the fundamental understanding of mechanisms to translational research in mouse models.
