How to get the most out of your PhD: Stand out in academia

Seminar _icon DB

Are you wondering how you could get the most out of your PhD to stand out in academia? Are you curious which skills you should develop during your PhD to obtain that desirable research grant? Then sign up for this seminar!

The seminar will start with a presentation by Claudia Soede from the Valorisation department. She will talk about obtaining personal research and travel grants, and how to find those grants that are interesting for you as a PhD candidate.

Silvie Timmers will cover the second part of the seminar. During her postdoc she obtained a Veni research grant titled: “Boosting mitochondrial function in the prevention of type 2 diabetes: Let food become the medicine”. She will talk about the road towards this grant and give you tips to increase your chances of obtaining a grant yourself. The final presentation will be held by Yvonne Engels, who is a junior PI at the Department of Anaesthesiology. She will tell us about her academic career; how did she become a jPI, what skills were crucial to obtain this position, and what can you as a PhD already do to improve your position in academia?

The seminar will be closed with a panel discussion moderated by Jan van den Brand, in which all speakers will participate to answer your questions and discuss possibilities within academia.
