Summer greetings from René Bindels

In this last newsletter before the summer break and before I wish you all a happy holiday, I would like to briefly summarize the first half of 2017 and especially look ahead to the interesting activities that will take place in the second half of the year.

undefined undefinedI hope that you have had the chance to meet Dov Ballak, Adrian Cohen's successor. He has already familiarized himself well with the policy issues that lie ahead, and will, together with Dagmar Eleveld, continue to develop these issues with great enthusiasm.

Another new face is Reggy van den Bosch, communications advisor Research. As of 1 June, she has joined the Communications department, and will collaborate closely with the three research institutes. Her job is to work with us on a communications strategy for the research profile, and show the impact of all of our wonderful work to the "outside world" in a professional manner.

A major part of this communication is the new website. At the end of March, the new Radboudumc website went live. A website is a dynamic and especially complex whole and has certainly experienced some bumps in the road. But I can assure you that behind the scenes we are working very hard to further shape and professionalize this website. After the summer, it is expected that the three research institutes will be fully incorporated into the new website.
Starting September, you will also receive a renewed version of this newsletter. With new items, new design and even better information.

The first half of the year has also known many successes in the field of research. To highlight just a few; The Radboudumc Medal for Jolanda de Vries, the many publications in leading journals, numerous grants for our researchers, the RIMLS PhD retreat, the VICI grant for Ronald van Rij, the highly prestigious Royal decoration for Henk Stunnenberg and so much more. On you can find all the news items of the past 6 months.

The summer period will help prepare us for the second half of 2017 with, hopefully, even more highlights and successes. One of the highlights this fall is the New Frontiers Symposium on the Microbiome on 12 and 13 October with a public evening prior to this symposium for a journey to the new borders of the Crohn and Colitis Ulcerosa research. And then of course the beautiful ENABLE symposium in Barcelona on 17 November, a unique opportunity for our PhD and postdoc candidates.

But first, a short break, a moment for reflection and to renew our energy for the coming period. On behalf of our management team, I wish you a beautiful summer and I hope you enjoy a well-deserved holiday with your loved ones.

René Bindels,
Scientific director RIMLS
