Willemijn Hobo receives René Vogels travel grant

Hobo , Willemijn , 2014

Willemijn Hobo, Dept. Laboratory Medicine – Laboratory of Hematology, theme Cancer development and immune defence received a 1750 Euro travel grant from the René Vogels Stichting to perform a work visit in the Laboratory of Experimental Hematology at the Antwerp University Hospital focusing on the improvement of dendritic cell (DC) vaccine efficacy.

In the Laboratory of Hematology (Harry Dolstra) we demonstrated that by silencing the co-inhibitory molecules PD-L1 and PD-L2 using siRNAs we can strongly improve the immune stimulatory potential of DCs. Antwerp has developed an alternative IL-15 DC culture and demonstrated that these DCs have improved capacity to stimulate T cells and NK cells. This work visit is meant to combine these promising technologies, thereby generating DC vaccines with superior potential to activate the two key tumor-reactive effector cell populations: T cells and NK cells.
