Abdo did his PhD on biochemical biomarkers in CSF of neurodegenerative disease at the RUMC (2009) and completed his training as a neurologist and subsequently as an intensivist at the RUMC (2012). In 2015 he started his research line into the effects of systemic inflammation on the brain, including in vivo quantification of microglial activity in the brain and CSF profiling in patients with a sepsis and brain dysfunction.
