Dr. Tauqeer Alam

Currently, I am pursuing a postdoctoral research at the Center for Systems Biology and Bioenergetics, Radboud University Medical Centre, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. The focus of my research, currently, is to construct a comprehensive dynamic model of cellular and mitochondrial bioenergetics system and to investigate the consequence of disease state by applying a Systems Biology approach. I have obtained a PhD degree from Groningen Bioinformatics Center (GBiC), University of Groningen, The Netherlands. I pursued my final year of PhD at the University of Glasgow; there I was enrolled as a "non-graduating" full-time PhD student. In my PhD research, I have applied a Systems biology approach to understand the mechanism involved in the production of antibiotics in Streptomyces species. Before my PhD, I attained an advance P. G. diploma in Bioinformatics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India, and a M. Sc. in Bioinformatics from Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, India. I secured a top rank in my M.Sc., and received a gold medal from the University.

During the course of my research, I have worked on multi-disciplinary projects including metabolic pathway engineering for antibiotics overproduction, analyzing antibiotics overproducer strain, construction and analysis of metabolic models (Kinetic and stoichiometric), comparative modeling of a large scale, comparative genomics, sequence analysis and identifying potential candidate genes for antibiotic production, and analysis of transcriptome data. I have strong expertise in integrating various data types with model predictions, analyzing high-throughput data using statistical techniques, and developing algorithms for data analysis.
