My research subject focuses on spatial clustering of malaria. We are looking at so called hotspots of malaria - areas where malaria prevalence is significantly higher than surrounding areas. In June 2011 we managed to identify 10 such hotspots in an area of low/moderate endemicity with a approximate size 5x20km^2 in the Kenyan Western Highlands. With our targeted approach we hope to deplete the infectious reservoir and therefore bringing malaria prevalence down to insignificant levels for a longer period. The impact of our malaria interventions is currently under evaluation.
