Dr. Christian Büll

Cancer development and immune defense

Christian obtained his PhD (cum laude) 2017 in the group of Prof. Dr. Gosse Adema at the Department of Tumor Immunology. Together with Prof. Dr. Gosse Adema, he moved in 2017 to the Radiotherapy and OncoImmunology Laboratory at the Department of Radiation Oncology where he currently works as postdoctoral researcher. His research focuses on the role of sialic acid sugars and immunomodulatory Siglec receptors in tumor immunology. Aberrant expression of sialic acid-carrying glycans and their interaction with Siglecs promotes tumor growth and immune evasion. Therefore, Christian is interested in sialic acid blockade and the chemical modification of tumor sialic acids using glycomimetics to counteract tumor growth and progression.
