Women's cancers

Willianne Nelen's research activities lie in the field of quality of reproductive care. She is a medical doctor and affiliated to the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She investigates how to improve care to personalized health care starting with the following ingredients: identification of  patients' preferences and preferred outcomes, development of instruments for shared decision making, development of indicators (i.e. measurement instruments) by a patient centred design to measure the quality of care, and the evaluation of several interventions (e.g. personal care communities) to improve care in a personalized way. Herewith her research focuses on measures like patient-centeredness, efficiency, guideline adherence (measured by process indicators) and safety (e.g. multiple pregnancy rates, psychological burden). Used interventions within the experimental investigations are mainly patient directed (e.g. decision aids, apps, internet therapy) and/or make use of Web 2.0 technologies (e.g. WIKI). In the end, with my research I try to improve reproductive care, especially for young women experiencing cancer.
